Fire!
The year 2025 holds one very important record in Spain, and let’s hope that it will not be broken in the (near) future: almost 4000 square kilometres of 400.000 hectares burned down.
It has been a very, very hot summer, and it has been very, very dry, with several days of temperatures around 40 degrees.
During the years that we have lived here, we´ve had several very hot summers, but also several cold and/or wet summers…We love the summer in Galicia, but sometimes we could do with a little bit less sunshine or rain.
We have been extremely fortunate up until September, when one of the last fires of the season was in our municipality.
It was a big fire and more that 2 square kilometres or 2000 hectares have burned.
It took several days to extinguish, partly because of the fact that various mountainsides were burning, only reachable by helicopter or small plane.
This is what we have seen (and fortunately it is not that much...)
